Student Networking Session at AALA 2024 Conference
The AALA Student Committee would like to invite you to the annual Student Networking Session conducted at the AALA 2024 conference. The theme of this year’s networking session is “Helpful Resources for Graduate Students in Language Assessment.” In the session, two AALA conference student award winners will be sharing their experiences on helpful resources that can help graduate students gain knowledge/skills, stay updated on different conferences, seek awards/funding/grants, and connect and discuss with peers or experts in the field. Niles Zhao – AALA 2024 Best Student Paper Award Winner

Niles Zhao is a PhD candidate at the University of Melbourne. His research interests include test impact and validation, assessing writing and teacher education. He is a recipient of the International Research Foundation’s Doctoral Dissertation Grant (2021) and the Duolingo English Test Doctoral Dissertation Award (2022), the AALA Best Student Poster Award (2022), the TOEFL ILTA Student Travel Grant (2023) and the AALA Best Student Award (2024). He is vice-chair of the ILTA EDI working group and was vice-chair of the ILTA Graduate Student Assembly (2022), co-chair of the AALA Student Committee (2022) and student representative of ALTAAANZ (2023).

Xiaozhu Wang – AALA 2024 Best Student Poster Award Winner

Xiaozhu Wang is a PhD candidate at Beijing Language and Culture University. Her research interests include language assessment literacy and performance assessment for L2 Chinese learners. She has published articles on Assessing Writing and Language Assessment Quarterly, and is a recipient of Duolingo English Test dissertation research awards in language assessment (2023).
