4th Annual AALA Conference

CALL FOR ABSTRACTS CLOSED

We are now welcoming abstracts for the 4th International Conference of the Asian Association for Language Assessment (AALA), Taipei, June 21-23, 2017 and invite contributions from academics, researchers, teachers, students, and assessment agencies.

​

Location: Taipei, Taiwan

 

Host: The Language Training and Testing Center, Taipei

Theme:

 

Connecting assessment with teaching and learning: innovation and impact

​

We welcome all areas of language assessment research, including, but not limited to:

​

  • assessment practices (such as classroom and large-scale assessment, teacher-developed and professional-staff developed, and learning-oriented assessment);

  • qualities of assessments (such as construct representation, validation, consistency, fairness, test uses, consequences, etc.); and

  • new concerns (such as issues arising from computer-based assessments, computer-adaptive assessments, automated feedback and automated scoring).

Submission Overview

​

Presentations will focus on recent research linked to one of the Conference themes. When preparing your abstract, please consider your preferred presentation format (see below for more details), and confirm:

​

  • your presentation title (20 words)

  • an abstract of no more than 400 words (see below for more details);

  • the name(s) of the presenter(s).

 

Revised deadline for submission: November 13, 2016

Notification of selection: December 16, 2016

 

 

Presentation formats

​

  • Paper presentation – 20-minute session, plus 10 minute Q&A 

​

Paper presentations that report on theoretical or empirical research and offer innovative perspectives on the conference theme are preferred.

​

  • Poster presentation – for display at the Conference; presenters will also be asked to stand with their posters during scheduled sessions 

  • from independent researchers, students, faculty members

  • from professional assessment agencies

​

Note: An individual may be a first author on only one proposal. However, that individual may be a co-author/presenter on another proposal.

​

Abstract Submission Guidelines

​

​

  • Sub-theme

  • Preferred presentation format

  • Title – max. 20 words

  • Abstract – mas. 400 words, clearly highlighting the relevance and quality of your research

  • Presenter details – including name(s), affiliation(s), country(ies), and email address(es)

 

 

Information on AALA Student Awards

 

The AALA Best Student Paper Award and AALA Best Student Poster Award are merit-based awards that support the attendance of two graduate students at an AALA annual conference. All single-authored/individual student submissions will be automatically considered for the awards. To qualify for the student awards, contributors must be graduate students currently enrolled in a university Master’s or doctoral program in applied linguistics or a related field. A letter of matriculation/active student status must be shown upon request.

 

Winners MUST present their works at the AALA annual conference to receive the awards. Winners for the Best Student Paper Award and Best Student Poster Award will each receive a certificate, have their conference and pre-conference workshop registration fees waived, and be invited to the banquet.

Evaluation Criteria

​

Proposals for individual papers and posters will be evaluated by a team of reviewers. The reviewers’ decision is final.

​

  • Significance of the research topic/Contribution to the field

  • Relevance to conference theme

  • Rigor of study (e.g., rationale for the research, contextualization within the literature, design of research question(s), choice and use of methodology, interpretation and conclusion etc.)
